Creatives Need Community. That’s where you come in.

Become a Creative Recovery Facilitator with us

Since 2017, we have crafted safe spaces for artists to explore their creative life within a community of like-minded, supportive individuals from all around the world.

With new cohorts beginning in February and September each year, we open the doors to our facilitator program from time to time in order grow our team of creative recovery support. If you’re interested in applying to be part of the team, keep reading!

What we believe (each participant signs this disclaimer when they enter the space):

🫶🏽 Language matters

Whoever you are, wherever you come from, regardless of your experience or ability level, you are welcome here.

Help us welcome everyone by:

  • Naming your experience without making assumptions about others'

  • Creating space for all voices to be heard. (Hang back if you share often or nudge yourself forward if you have yet to share, as you're comfortable!)

  • Never using language that is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, classist, or xenophobic, as it will not be tolerated at Artists for Joy events.

✨Creativity is soul-work

Be gentle with yourself and others as you discover and recover your creative impulse. Conversations around creativity can touch on topics that are loaded for some folks, like spirituality, identity, or even trauma. Name what you need and make space for others to do the same. Never give unsolicited advice; the simple act of listening is incredibly powerful.

🤭 Have fun

There is an energy when a gaggle of fellow creative spirits comes together. It’s seriously the best thing ever. So, let the joy spill over when it comes. You aren't too late. You aren't out of time. You are right where you need to be. Here is your permission slip to enjoy yourself.

🗣️Speak up

The facilitators are here to help (you will know who they are by the word "facilitator" at the front of their name!) Do not be afraid to ask them questions by directly messaging them in the chat or emailing Merideth, the lead facilitator, at merideth@luminaarts.org. Please report any concerns or questions directly to them, and we will help however we can.

Facilitators are:

Flexible + Genuinely curious + Positive

Open to feedback + Lovers of questions

Comfortable with silence + Compassionate + Fun

This work is right for you if:

—You’ve been through The Artist’s Way or The Artist’s Joy as a participant with Artists for Joy at least once before.

—You have a basic understanding of Zoom and/or are willing to learn some simple tech.

—You are available for most Tuesday night meetings (we gather at 6:30 EST and end at 8:30 EST) and have one additional short (30 min) check-in most weeks during the duration of course (date and time tbd.)

WIIFM or “What’s in it for me?”

While this opportunity is not a paid position (at this juncture, anyway) facilitators join a team of incredibly inspiring artists of all disciplines and experience levels. We learn so much from each other. We share our own creative recovery journey as we facilitate the work for others and—the best part— we’ve got each others’ back. It is a way to be an integral part of our vibrant community while learning skills for online facilitation and public speaking. Plus, our cohorts has thousands of registrants, and facilitators are offered the opportunity to share their creative work with the group when deemed appropriate*, which can help grow your audience.

Ready to apply? Submit the form below and we will be in touch.
